Jess Wallwork: Level 2 / 3 Workshop for Teachers and Experienced Practitioners

AIY are delighted to be hosting a workshop with Bristol based Level 3 teacher Jess Wallwork.

This will be an absorbing and uplifting workshop for those students keen to try more challenging and less often taught asana from ‘Light on Yoga’.Jess remembers looking at photographs of BKS Iyengar in his book Light on Yoga as a young child. Then at age 7, after falling from a tree and hurting her back, it was her unexpected good fortune to be given a series of yoga poses, hand drawn by her doctor who happened to be Indian. The poses helped to relieve the pain, correct her spine and taught her to focus inward. Jess began regular classes with the Iyengar Yoga Society at Edinburgh University, liking the focus on precision and alignment in the poses and the feeling of well-being after class. Since then yoga has been part of her life. Jess has studied with BKS Iyengar at RIMYI in Pune, India. Jess feels that yoga keeps her healthy and balanced and hopes to pass the benefit of yoga to her students.

This Level 2/3 workshop is suitable for teachers and experienced practitioners.

  • Cost: £25.00

PD Day with Richard Agar Ward

The PD day is 'in-person' and the content of the programme is 'hands on' so that teachers can practice helping each other in the inverted asanas. It is a great opportunity for teachers to rebuild their community, getting together to share knowledge and experiences, seeing old friends and colleagues again.

The morning session will be looking at teaching ’new’ asanas on the Level 1 syllabus such as Adho Mukha Vrksasana and Pincha Mayurasana. After a hour’s break for lunch the second part will deal with some additions to the Level 2 syllabus such as Uhrdva Padmasana.

The format includes time for discussion and working in groups to share experiences and methods for introducing these asanas safely and effectively. Teachers will not be not expected to do all of the asanas to participate. Richard will include suggested preparation poses as well as alternatives and adaptations for anyone who doesn’t currently practice those asanas, whatever the reasons may be.

Cost £25.00

Workshop with Marios Argiros

AIY are delighted to be hosting this day-long, in-person workshop with the wonderful Marios Argiros.

Marios was inspired early on in his yoga journey by Tricia Booth and Jeanne Maslen, who both encouraged him to take his dedication to Iyengar yoga further and follow the teacher training course at Manchester and District Institute of Iyengar Yoga.  As a professional classical musician, he found that the concentration, discipline and self-practice needed in music could be applied to yoga in the same way.  He qualified in 2002.

He has been a Senior 3/Level 3 teacher for several years, and continues to make regular visits to India to study with the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Memorial Institute in Pune, and also with Jawahar Bangera and Firooza Ali.

He now divides his time between Hertfordshire and Greece and combines teaching local classes and yoga therapy while giving workshops all over the UK and Europe.  He has also taught in the USA.

He is inspired not only by his teachers, but also by his students, and the power of Iyengar yoga to work with and improve some very challenging conditions.

Yoga was instrumental in his own recovery from a serious car accident a few years ago, and he feels enormous gratitude to have worked with Guruji in the medical classes in Pune.  In late 2018 Marios spent several weeks in India, culminating in the Iyengar centenary celebration in Pune where he was very fortunate to experience Geeta Iyengar’s last teachings.

His teaching is clear, strong and humorous with his absolute love and dedication to Iyengar Yoga always shining through.

The workshop is open to teachers and keen students of Iyengar Yoga - all participants must be regular attendees of Iyengar classes and practice the inversions (or know their alternatives).

Equipment required - 4 blocks, 2 bricks, 2 blankets, 2 belts and a yoga chair. If you do not have any of these props, please let us know and we can assist.

Cost                                 £40.00
